Edifier R1280T vs R1280DB: Which Is Better?

One name comes to mind when it comes to cost-effective and versatile bookshelf speakers, and that brand is Edifier.

Edifier is a renowned speaker manufacturer known for its high-quality speakers.

You may be undecided about whether to purchase the R1280T or the R1280DB. Can’t blame you, both Edifier R1280T and R1280DB bookshelf speakers are incredibly stylish and attractive.

To make things easier, in today’s blog, I’ll compare the two speakers to see where the differences are, whether it’s in the design or just the letters T and DB.

In a Sibling Battle, Which Is Better: Edifier R1280T or R1280DB?

Edifier is a company that specializes in audio products such as headphones and other audio devices, but they are best known for their speakers.

Its goods are popular in the home entertainment market. Among its many offerings, audiophiles who enjoy home entertainment prefer the Edifier R1280T and R1280DB bookshelf speakers.

Although they have the same name, they are very different from one another, just like real-life siblings. To help you understand this, I’ve broken down the most crucial differences between those speakers below.

Which one has the better design?

When it comes to aesthetics, the speakers are remarkably comparable. They both appear to be wonderful.

On both sides of the panels, the Edifier R1280T is built of wood veneer. The top panels of each speaker are constructed of metal, while the grilles are made of cloth.

It weighs 12.5kg and measures 5.75 x 9.5 x 7 inches.

What’s interesting is that the Edifier R1280DB is the same size as its predecessor, measuring 5.7 x 9.5 x 7 inches. It features a timeless design that is attractive to the eye.

Furthermore, they are nearly identical in weight, with the exception of the R1280T, which is somewhat heavier.

Because they are so nicely crafted, you can rest assured that they will last you a couple of years.

The speakers’ longevity is increased by their wood panels, silk tweeters, and cloth grills.

Overall I think you will be hard-pressed to find the difference, both speakers have a design that will pretty much blend in any living room or set up without standing out and grab unwanted attention.

When we get to the back of the speakers, or, to put it another way, their connectivity, things change drastically.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the Edifier 1280DB has the upper hand over its sibling. The DB and DBs models are essentially newer versions of the older models that are labeled with the T latter.

With that said, we can conclude why they hold the upper hand in this situation.

The most notable difference is that the 1280DB includes Bluetooth connectivity, which is not found in its predecessor.

The Edifier R1280T has two auxiliary inputs, one coaxial and one optical, while its brother has two RCA inputs. The R1280T exceeds on this field since the auxiliary inputs are quite needed.

On the other hand, the R1280DB’s wireless range is a whopping 33 feet, and it has a signal-to-noise ratio of 94dB.

The Edifier R1280DB has a more advanced remote control feature than the Edifier R1280T.

The R1280remote T’s control is fairly easy and uncomplicated, so I’m not sure if that makes it an advantage or a con.

I mean, it’s just a remote control; it’s not like it’s a big deal.

Nonetheless, the R1280DB’s updated remote control is quite great, and there’s freedom for plenty of things

Also, because they are bookshelf speakers, I would recommend placing them on an elevated surface while connecting them.

When put on a flat surface, the sound is more directed.

Which one has the better sound?

Edifier is a well-known brand, and they know what they’re doing with their speakers, as I indicated earlier. The sound quality of both speakers is excellent.

The R1280T 4-inch bass driver plays an important role in delivering deep and rich bass. There’s also a 13mm silk teeter with a 4-inch woofer that delivers high-quality audio at a broad frequency range.

The R1280DB, on the other hand, has two drivers and a single bass port under the hood, with the driver here being larger than the one found on its predecessor.

Because of the front-firing bass port, the bass performance is also remarkable.

A 4-inch subwoofer and a 13mm silk dome tweeter are also included.

The 1280DB produces good sound quality, with lots of volumes and good instrument separation within the song.

Nonetheless, when using the R1280T for gaming, you will note that the highs are crisp and clear, and the same can be said for the R1280DB; however, I still prefer to game on the R1280T for some reason, I find the R1280DB to be more ear-piercing.

Both speakers have a similar sound profile and perform exceptionally well in high-frequency

Surprisingly, they both suffer from the same flaw: distortion. You’ll notice some distortion if you turn the bass up too loud.

Final Words, Conclusion

I don’t want to come off as a sponsored reviewer, but I believe the R1280T are one of the best bookshelf speakers ever manufactured; they are still relevant in the market to this day.

The R1280DB, on the other hand, is an update that is as good as, if not better than, the R1280T

With that said, I’m hesitant to declare a winner, but I can perform a simple separation.

If you want wireless connectivity and more connectivity options, the R1280DB is the way to go; if you want a cheaper choice, the R1280T will suffice.
