Sennheiser HD 650 vs Philips Fidelio X2 – Head-to-Head Comparison

Now that you have an idea of what and who these headphones are, let us get straight to the main things that should be mentioned about them, and make that comparison once and for all.

Design and Build Quality

As I already mentioned above, when I told you about these headphones, both of them include an open-back design, and it is completely related to the earcups. When it comes to the design as a whole, both of the headphones are simple and cool at the same time and both of them come in black colors.

Anyways, there are differences that should be mentioned. The Sennheiser HD 650 headphones are way more simple than the Philips Fidelio X2 as they imply a plastic material overall, but on the headband, we have a fluffy material which is added for the comfort that the headphones provide. The earcups have a fluffy material on the part that has direct contact with your ears.

When we move on to Philips Fidelio X2, we have a stainless steel material and leather combined together on both the headband and the earcups. There are kind of two types of headbands, the one that is directly linked with the earcups, and the other one is added for a more comfortable fit. They are adjustable in many ways so that they can become the most comfortable headphones that you can find.

All in all, the headphones are similar and different at the same time, but still, when it comes to the fitting, durability, and comfort, the Philips Fidelio X2 is kind of one step further.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Being super professional headphones, both of them, Sennheiser HD 650 and Philips Fidelio X2 come as wired, just like many other professional headphones. Still, even though they are both wired, there are some things that should be mentioned.

In Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, you will find a detachable cable that is made of OFC copper. It includes a gold plated 1/4 inches jack plug, and a 3.5mm jack adapter. Considering the fact that a 3.5mm plug is one of the most used connector types in different devices, these headphones are compatible with any device that you can think about at this moment.

The Philips Fidelio X2 headphones own a three-meter long detachable oxygen-free cable, and it works with two types of adaptor plugs. There is the famous 3.5mm jack, and also, you will find the 6.3mm included. I am very proud to say that Philips Fidelio X2 are two types of connections when it comes to the compatibility part. If the device that you are thinking about using doesn’t own the 3.5mm port, it has the other, so that makes the Philips Fidelio X2 headphones compatible with everything.

However, I really wish there was a remote control so we could have it easier regarding volume control.

If we consider the types of connections and the compatibility part, it is more than clear that the Philips Fidelio headphones are definitely the winners of this part! There are two ways of connecting them and exceptional compatibility.

Performance and Sound Quality

Even though the last, the audio quality is one of the most important factors that anyone should take a look at whenever buying a pair of headphones, and also when comparing two different headphones. You can notice above that these headphones, Sennheiser HD 650 and Philips Fidelio X2 have different frequency ranges and other different specifications of the sound quality. In general, both of the headphones sound great, and being professional ones, they are able to price you with a super-clear sound.

The Sennheiser HD 650 headphones are one of the most used headphones by audiophiles, and that’s because they own a great sound. You will notice that those are natural sounding headphones that offer a very accurate sound in every frequency range, starting from the lows, mids, and highs. Still, you should know that the lows (bass), is not the best one that you will listen to.

The Philips Fidelio X2 headphones, on the other hand, are known for the detailed sound that they are able to deliver. From the bass accuracy which is very powerful and balanced, to mids and highs, these headphones are definitely the ones for people that create sound in a way. The sound here is balanced and natural as well, and many people say that these headphones are the most precise ones when it comes to sound, yet again, they offer more bass than their rivals and the mid range somehow exceeds it, especially when it comes to female vocals.

Comparing the most important thing that the headphones should own, the sound quality, is a little bit difficult, but still, considering the ranges of frequencies and the ways that the headphones deal with the lows, mids, and highs, it seems like we have the Philips Fidelio X2 as winners here too. There is a better range of frequency and a more precise sound.

Which is better? Final Words, Conclusion

Well coming to the final part of this article, it is important to mention that in an overall way speaking, both the headphones that I compared are quite good for the job that they tend to do. If you guys are searching for a winner between the Sennheiser HD 650 and Philips Fidelio X2, considering the parts that I mentioned, the Philips Fidelio X2 headphones are a little bit better. Still, it is important to mention that what makes these headphones winners may also be part of the releases since the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones are way older than the Philips ones.

Anyways, I hope that you guys found out which headphones are better! Have fun!
