How Do They Look? – Design, Appearance
The JBL Charge 3 and JBL Charge 4 are quite similar to one another, but still, the sizes differ. JBL Charge 3 measures 9.1 x 3.5 x 3.5 inches and JBL Charge 4 measures 3.5 x 8.5 x 3.4 inches. The JBL Charge 3, even though a bit bigger than the other one, it doesn’t mean that it is not portable. They both are made for this thing, to accompany you wherever you may go.
Since I mentioned portability, we know that in this part the weight has a main role as well. Charge 3 weighs 1.8 pounds, while Charge 4 is a bit heavier since it weighs 2.13 pounds.
As for the whole look, both speakers look too cool! They both have like a rounded shape on the sides, and they both own a grille that covers most parts of them. A difference that should be mentioned in their appearance is that JBL comes only in a black finish, meanwhile, in JBL Charge 4 you can choose from many colors. It comes in a total of ten colors that include black, blue, gray, camouflage, green, mint green, sand, red, pink, and yellow.
Can They Withstand Anything? – Durability
We are used to the fact, that a wireless speaker is quite durable, and JBL Charge 3 and JBL Charge 4 are no exception! Both the speakers are very durable to withstand many weather conditions.
Both of them include an IPX7 rating, which makes them usable wherever and whenever you want. You are going to the beach? Take them with you! It is raining? Take them and use them easily!
How To Pair Them? – Connectivity
All portable speakers use Bluetooth! That’s definitely a fact, and these two speakers from JBL are a definition of that but still, there is a slight difference in this part.
JBL Charge 3 uses Bluetooth of version 4.1 in order to get connected or paired with other devices. Version 4.1 is a great performer regarding the power management in the devices that are used connected to one another.
Now, the difference comes in JBL Charge 4. It uses version 4.2 of Bluetooth and it is one of those versions that is a “beast” when it comes to wireless audio in general.
Both of the speakers can be connected with any type of device that owns Bluetooth as a connectivity technology, and a specialty that should be mentioned here is that JBL Charge 3 can be connected with three other same speakers at the same time, and the JBL Charge 4 uses the JBL Connect+ which allows pairing with more that one hundred JBL speakers!

Based on the name, a portable speaker should definitely own great battery life, and JBL tried to bring the best out of this. Both the JBL Charge 3 and Charge 4 are speakers that can stay with you for up to 20 hours of battery life, once fully charged.
The battery type that is used in JBL Charge 3 is a Lithium-Ion Polymer that works at 22.2 Wh, and on JBL Charge 4, we encounter a Lithium-Ion battery that works at 7500mAh.
